Thanks to advanced turbine technology the plant’s CO2 emissions will be reduced by 600,000 t per annum with the same amount of electricity being generated. Siemens PG is to upgrade the high- and intermediate-pressure turbines and two low-pressure turbines at the 620-MW coal-fired power plant units G and H in Niederaussem, which went on line in the mid-1970s. The turbines will be equipped with new advanced rotors and blading. The scope of services will include further efficiency-enhancement measures such as modernization of the condensers and the turbine I&C systems. The special high-precision components with a total weight of approximately 400 metric tons will be produced at the Siemens turbine manufacturing plant in Muelheim; the condenser modules measuring 3 x 6 x 8,50 meters and weighing 70 metric tons are the largest components involved.
